He entered our lives as a foster dog. Since he was a shelter dog, his medical plan of action was to leave
his leg in a cast for 6 weeks. At that time, if the was no healing, his leg would be amputated. There was a costly
procedure (over $2000.00) that could be done, but that was not in a shelters budget. After just a few days with
us, the shelter called, they found someone willing to do the surgery at cost, if we could get him there that day. (Thank
you to those wonderful, kind hearted people!)
Freeway now had pins in his leg. He needed to have them tightened on a regular basis, his leg had to be wrapped in a
baggie when he went out (it was winter and his leg needed to stay dry), he couldn't be left alone, and care had to be
taken for the pins to not get caught on anything. It was a long 8 weeks, but he was worth it.
