Let me tell you about my little brother - Freeway.
Freeway was a shelter dog too.  He had a really bad start in his young life.
Mom went to the shelter to walk dogs like she always does on Saturday.  On this particular Saturday there was a young dog there who's leg was in a cast.  She took him out a couple of times that day.  They seemed to have bonded right off the bat.  Mom decided to bring me up there to meet him.  We got along alright so we brought him home.

He entered our lives as a foster dog.  Since he was a shelter dog, his medical plan of action was to leave his leg in a cast for 6 weeks.  At that time, if the was no healing, his leg would be amputated.  There was a costly procedure (over $2000.00) that could be done, but that was not in a shelters budget.  After just a few days with us, the shelter called, they found someone willing to do the surgery at cost, if we could get him there that day.  (Thank you to those wonderful, kind hearted people!)

Freeway now had pins in his leg.  He needed to have them tightened on a regular basis, his leg had to be wrapped in a baggie when he went out (it was winter and his leg needed to stay dry), he couldn't be left alone, and care had to be taken for the pins to not get caught on anything.  It was a long 8 weeks, but he was worth it.

Needless to say once we fostered him back to health, we decided to adopt him.  And, because of him, we decided to name the donated shelter funds "The Freeway Fund".
